Elections 2007

ELECTIONS 2007 IN KENYA

In Kenya, individuals ascend to leadership positions on the basis of their
wealth, kin, power relations or patronage. Leadership emerges either by
accident, default or prevailing massive political currents. Predominant
ideology informing understanding of leadership is that people are political
leaders by virtue of birth, i.e. by nature (nativity).

There has been no conscious effort at systematic evolution and development of political leadership. It is the plugging of this void, which has brought the three partners – Youth Agenda, 4Cs and Friedrich Ebert Foundation – to design and implement the Political Leadership Development Programme (PLDP).
